Approach

Exploration

Design research is integral to our discovery process. We construct a language to structure our work using inspiration images. Through a unique combination of interior design, textile design, and art, we develop a cohesive vision for your custom project.

Artistry

As artists, we strive to combine the best of traditional studio practice with modern technology in order to create thoughtful design solutions. By utilizing both traditional and modern techniques, we are able to effectively combine the best of both worlds to create designs that are timeless, yet modern. We are also able to leverage technology to solve problems in creative and innovative ways, while still retaining the classic aesthetic of a traditional studio practice.

Craftsmanship

In order to design decorative fabrics, we work with textile craftspeople around the world who pay close attention to the intricate nuances of textile manufacture. Our manufacturing partners understand the subtleties of weaving, dyeing, and printing, which allow unique designs and patterns to be created.

About Approach Process Founder

Process

  • We begin by conducting a series of meetings to determine the areas of interest and aesthetic preferences for the project. We will discuss the specific concepts and how the designs will be used in the project. During this stage, the initial vision and feel come to life.

  • Upon assessment of your project, we will provide you with a preliminary proposal that outlines each phase of the design process and the work that will be completed. You will be provided with an estimated fee structure for your review and approval.

  • Sketches, renderings, and inspiration for possibilities will be shared as well as initial suggestions for design direction. We collect research and inspiration in order to inform the next phase of our strategy.

  • We implement our conceptual design. Design concepts are created either by hand or digitally as per our design direction. The final designs are organized and prepared for textile production.

Founder

Our founder and principal designer, Marteen Allen, is a life-long New Yorker with over a decade of experience working as a textile designer and consultant for textile mills and fabric houses. Marteen founded Studio Jeannot [zha-no] in 2022.

As an artist from an early age, her practice is rooted in a cross-disciplinary approach that straddles fine art and design. By linking the artist's studio with design principles, she is inspired to combine creative chance with thoughtful planning in her practice. Her work has been published in a number of magazines, including Wallpaper, Architectural Digest, and Surface.

In her studio practice, she emphasizes textile craftsmanship, the artist's studio, and storytelling. She incorporates her experience into the projects she loves most: richly storied textiles for discerning clients.

Besides her degrees in Fine and Studio Arts and Textile/Surface Design, she also devotes time to pursuing continuing education in painting, weaving, and ceramics.
